The coat of the Brittany is dense, fine, rather flat and slightly wavy. The color is orange\/white, liver\/white, black\/white, tricolor, roan or any of these colors. Not difficult to groom the coat. Stripping may be required, but should never be noticeable, the Brittany should look as natural as possible.<\/p>\n

Equipment needed:<\/strong><\/em> Bristle brush or pin brush, fine-toothed comb.<\/p>\n

• Brush the entire coat with a bristle or pin brush, using a slicker on the long parts and on the feathering.<\/li>\n
• Comb through, removing dead hair with a molting comb. Use thinning shears where any thick hair may need a cleaner appearance.<\/li>\n
• Bathe the coat in a protein shampoo and condition with a conditioning enhancer.<\/li>\n
• Towel-dry and then air-, cage-, or lightly blow- dry, going with the growth of the coat to achieve a flat finish.<\/li>\n
• Check the Brittany’s nails, ears and teeth.<\/li>\n
• Use a stripping knife to remove untidy hairs from the head. Thinners can be used on the hair below the ears to give a smoother appearance.<\/li>\n
• Continue stripping using the knife or thinners, down with the growth of the hair to smooth and taper the entire body coat. Some groomers may find carding useful to smooth hairs on the body. (Hold a No. 15 Oster blade or a blunt stripping knife in your hand and strip it through the coat.) Removal of the coat should never be noticeable.<\/li>\n
• Then, thin the coat where feathering is too profuse. Spray the coat with an enhancer or a protein coat conditioner, giving a final brush to add luster and sheen, and to give a more flattened appearance.<\/li>\n
